A bill to ban "the teaching that mankind either descended or ascended from a lower order of ani­mals and the adoption or use of text-books which teach that mankind either descended or ascended from a lower order of animals in all the public schools, colleges, state teacher's colleges, and University of Minnesota." Violators would be charged a misdemeanor and fined.

On March 2, 1927, Representative Nelson et a l. introduced House File No. 837. This bill was referred to the House Education Committee which returned the bill to the House on March 14. The Education Committee reported back with a recommendation that the bill be indefinitely postponed. This recommendation was adopted by the House and H. B. No. 837 was not presented for further consideration to the House of Representatives.
