Answer Monday!

Last week I told you to take it slow on identifying this fossil. As we all know, slow and steady wins the race, or in our case, comes up with the right answer! 

So what was it?  Well, it wasn’t a prehistoric jack rabbit, that is for sure. It was an extinct turtle: Echmatemys euthneta. Though a lot of people guessed turtle, Gazzang was the only one who identified the genus accurately!  Great job!

The Encyclopedia of Life has some nice pictures of these fellows, but when I  searched online for more information on this species, I found very little. Does anyone want to chime in (perhaps a little faster) with any details they might know?
