Today (10 September) is Stephen Jay Gould's birthday. He would have been 72.
SJG was an inspiration to many, and especially to me; my fascination with geology was spurred, in no small part, by his writings. With his untimely passing, we lost a great scientist and a great science communicator. NCSE's Project Steve is named in his honor.
