It Isn’t Easy Being a Tree

Could life as a tree really be that stressful? Discover the hidden stresses all trees are under.

The strongest effect of climate change on plants is not going to be the change in the overall amount of precipitation they receive, but rather the increased variation in precipitation from year to year. In this game, developed by NCSE Graduate Student Outreach Fellow Rachel Larson, participants will take on the role of a tree experiencing changing patterns of precipitation under climate change, with the goal of understanding how the unpredictability of water is stressful to trees and may, ultimately, lead to extinction.
